The importance of adhesive test

Testing the adhesive is a crucial step before using a variety of label types. The type of adhesive used, whether it's self-adhesive, heat-sealing adhesive, or glued paper, should be determined beforehand. Certain adhesives may have a chemical reaction with specific substances, causing potential issues. For instance, self-adhesive labels used for signage purposes may cause contamination to special fabrics in particular circumstances. Some labels that are intended to have short-term stickiness may end up having long-lasting stickiness when exposed to certain conditions, while others that require long-term tackiness may lose their stickiness on certain surfaces. Therefore, before using labels, it is important to test the adhesive to ensure that it is suitable for the intended purpose.
To accurately measure viscosity, it is crucial to choose a specific surface for the test. Luckily, manufacturers of label materials and adhesives often have testing capabilities to ensure exact measurements. Without selecting a particular surface for testing, the viscosity effect cannot be guaranteed.
Issues arise when attempting to use self-adhesive labels or other types of labels on the surface of recycled paper. The recycling process involves a variety of different papers, including those with silicone or wax coatings which can contaminate the final recycled products when mixed together. When using labels on the surface of these contaminated recycled papers, the adhesive is often rendered useless. It's important to note that the purpose of the silicone coating on the sticker is to ensure that it can be easily removed from the liner.
Problems may also arise when temperatures become low. The bonding process slows down considerably when temperatures drop. As a result, labels may begin to peel off surfaces before the adhesive can take hold. If labels are not properly stored, with large temperature differences, fluctuating humidity, or improper stacking, they may quickly lose viscosity after use.
Properly peeling off the stickers from the backing paper surface is one of the crucial factors that can ensure the efficient usage of stickers.
It is quite common to see people wrongly removing the label from either the left or right corner which could cause unintended damage to the label. Needlessly pulled from the edge, the portion of contact adhesive becomes diminished and the "surface fiber" structure can be destroyed. This ultimately results in the label curling.
In order to remove a self-adhesive label from its backing paper, it is essential to ensure that the label is torn off in a straight manner. This will help to keep the label intact and prevent any tearing or damage. Additionally, when peeling the backing paper away from the label, it is recommended to start from either the top or bottom center. By doing so, the label can be applied to the desired surface without difficulty, as it will adhere perfectly.
